Barroella Zeliff

genus / OXYMONADIDA / OXYMONADIDAE

Description

Multinucleate organism {25-220 ~m) (Fig. 12A). Attached or mature forms are club-shaped cells with 1 rostellum, several nuclei (2-114), and axostyles scattered throughout the cell body and without flagella . Immature forms occurring from plasmotomy of large forms contain several karyomastigonts, with poorly developed flagella, arranged in one or several coronas (Figs. 12B,C). They phagocytize wood. Two described species, one occurring in Ca/caritermes brevicol/is of Panama and one in Neotermes howa from Mauritius island (Cross 1946). No ultrastructural study. A mauritiana {after Cross , 1946) .
