Chrysocystis Lobban , Honda & Chihara

genus

Description

in Lobban , 1995 Solid gelatinous colonies with cells located around the periphery ; colonies macroscopic , appearing pale yellow in color ; zoospores formed by 2 successive divisions of vegetative cells; zoospores pyriform or ovoid with one to several chloroplasts and laterally inserted flagella ; longer flagellum directed anteriorly , shorter flagellum directed posteriorly; eyespots absent; asexual reproduction by colony fragmentation and zoospore formation ; sexual reproduction unknown ; marine , monospecific genus. See Lobban et al. , 1995. Colony fragile , cylindrical in shape, 30-50 mm long and approximate ly 5 mm wide; cells spherical , 8-14 11m in diameter; cells covered with a thin cell wall ; numerous muciferous bodies located near the periphery of the cells ; 4 to 8 parietal chloroplasts , elliptical to saucer-shaped; chloroplasts with 1 or 2 projecting pyrenoids; zoospores 4-5 11m long , 2-3 11m wide , with a single posterior chloroplast; anterior flagellum 9-13 ~Lm long , posterior flagellum 5-6 11m long . a ro ck, extend ed by water current.
