Protozoa Guide review

Chrysonephos

genus

Description

Filamentous , with falsely dichotomous branching ; mostly uniseriate , delicate , and forming golden brown tufts; cell walls indistinct , but more apparent in basal cells than in apical cells ; zoospores released by dissolution of cell walls ; zoospores with longer anteriorly directed flagellum and shorter posteriorly directed flagellum ; flagella inserted laterally ; eyespot absent; marine, monospecific genus. See Taylor (1951, 1952) , Honda (1995), Lobban et al . (1995) , Sartoni et al. (1995), Boddi et al. , ( 1999 ) . 1951) (Fig. 5). Filaments 1-3 em long; cells near the base 30-38 11m in diameter, cells near the tips tapering to 4.5-8 ~Lm; cell length typi cally 1.5-2 times the diameter; 2-4 parietal chloroplasts with erose margins ; stalk-like pyrenoids ; zoospores pyriform, 7-12 11m in diameter, 8-9 11m long . 738 PELAGOPHYCE b cells independently surrounded by gelatinous material. b. Zoospores . Scale bar=1 0 J..lm. (From Billard , 1984)
