Description
Uniseriate filaments attached to the substrate with a gelatinous holdfast; cell wall thick and appearing laminate in some electron micrographs ; terminus of the filament sometimes broken and erroneously giving the appearance of a Tribonema-like (Xanthophyceae) H-shaped cell wall structure; typically with 4 yellow-brown parietal chloroplasts; stalked pyrenoids present; zoospores with a longer anteriorly directed flagellum bearing tripartite tubular hairs that lack lateral filaments and a shorter posteriorly directed flagellum lacking tripartite hairs ; palmelloid stage was reported in original description; marine .
