Description

Picoplanktonic marine unicell. Cells covered with spiderweb-like scales of a single type. Cells contain a parietal chloroplast but lack a pyrenoid. Bathycoccus prasinos Eikrem and Throndsen, 1 9 9 0 (Fig. 12). Cells 1.5-2.5 11m long, 1-2 11m wide. Described from 100-m depth in the Gulf of Naples (Eikrem and Throndsen 1990) and subsequently found in the north-eastern Atlantic and Norway. Probably overlooked in most areas.
