Description

Test attached , consisting of a single fragile layer of xenophyae covering granellare and stercomare which are attached directly to substrate. Occurrence: Puerto Rico Trench , 6000-5890 m ; eastern equatorial Pacific , 4200 m. conforms to shape of substrate . Yellow-brown in color, up to 5.5 mm diameter and about 0.5 mm thick. Xenophyae are sponge spicules , mineral particles and fine-grained interstitial material. Other species: an undescribed species occurs in the eastern Pacific . Refs. Tendal (1975), Mullineaux (1987).
