Actinolophus

Description

Stalked heliozoa with a pyriform 'head' at the top of a cylindrical , non-contractile , cytoplasmic stalk, which seems to be hollow . The center of the 'head' includes a homogeneous, pear-shaped axoplast; the nucleus is eccentric but in the 'head '. The axonemes support axopodia and also extend into the stalk . The 'head ' is covered by a gelatinous layer. Monotypic , marine . Reference : Villeneuve (1937) .
