genus / CRYPTOMONADIDA

Description

Cells laterally compressed, colorless , phagocytic ; flagella inserted on the dorsal side of the vestibulum, one flagellum with recurved spines , the other flagellum with fine fibrillar hairs; the vestibulum connects to a ventral furrow, a gullet is absent, but the furrow has a posterior stoma; an infundibulum is located on the left side of the cell, presumably for ingestion of particulates ; large ejectisomes form a band around the vestibulum ; the periplast is comprised of inner and outer rectangular plates, which are not offset (Fig . 13); the periplastidial compartment lacking ; fresh water and marine. Refs. Hill (1991a) , Kugrens and Lee (1991) , Mignot. (1965), Schuster (1968).
