Komma

genus / CRYPTOMONADIDA

Description

Cells are comma-shaped , or acuminate , with a rounded anterior end, tapering to a pointed or acutely rounded posterior. A furrow is lacking but a tubular gullet extends posteriorly from the base of the vestibulum . The periplast consists of relatively small internal and surface hexagonal plates , with the surface plates being crystalline in composition and occasionally , rosulate , heptagonal scales lie on the surface of these plates . The periplastidial compartment contains a single b I u e- green chloroplast with a central pyrenoid lacking traversing thylakoids and projecting from the chloroplast, the chloroplast occupying a dorsa- central position of the cell, and a nucleomorph situated at the level of the pyrenoid. The chI oro- plast contains C-phycocyanin 645. Freshwater (Hill 1990) . CRYPTOMONADIDA c haplomorph is on the left side and diplomorph on the right. The haplomorph has hexagonal periplast plates (PP) and the diplomorph has an inner periplast sheet (IPS) . (C) Chloroplast ; (E) ejectisome ; (Fu) furrow ; (MVB) midventral band ; (Nu) nucleomorph ; (P) pyrenoid . Scale=1 1-Jm .
