Description
Cells rounded anteriorly and posteriorly , dorso- ventrally flattened, appearing somewhat bean- shaped in lateral view; vestibulum and gullet located approximately one third of the cell length from the anterior, a furrow is absent; inner and surface periplast components comprised of hexagonal plates. The periplastidial compartment contains a single dorsal, boat-shaped chloroplast with a centrally situated, stalked pyrenoid traversed by one thylakoid and a nucleomorph located anterior to the pyrenoid. Salmon pink to orange in color (Cr-phycoerythrin 555) . Marine (Santore, 1977, 1982b; Kugrens and Lee 1987 ; Pennick , 1981, 1982; Wetherbee et al ., 1986) .
