Description
Cells often forming mucilaginous pallmelloid colonies. Motile cells possess 2 flagella , with typical tubular flagellar hairs, that originate from the right side of the vestibulum . Complex type of vestibular/furrow/gullet (Fig. 4) with furrow consisting of furrow ridges , folds , and a persistent opening called the stoma located near the posterior one third of the furrow. Periplast consisting of an inner component of round to oval-shaped plates and a surface component of a thin layer of fibrils. The periplastidial compartment has 2 chloroplasts with 2 pyrenoids , not transversed by thylakoids , and 2 nucleomorphs. Chloroplasts possess CR- phycoerythrin 566. Freshwater only (Brett et al. , 1986 ; Hill, 1991b ; Kugrens and Lee , 1987 ; 11 2 2 CRYPTOMONADI Kugrens et al. , 1986 ; Munawar and Bistricki , 1979; Roberts, 1984; Santore , 1977, 1984) .
