Description
Cells are laterally compressed ; a medium length furrow extends posteriorly from the vestibulum and a short sac-like gullet is posterior to the furrow ; the periplast consists of an inner sheet and a surface component of imbricate heptagonal scales and a fibrillar layer. The periplastidial compartment contains a single, somewhat lobed , peripheral chloroplast with 2 stalked kidney- shaped pyre no ids not traversed by thylakoids , with the thylakoids in the chloroplast arranged singly or stacked in variable numbers , and a nucleomorph located in a tongue of periplastidial DA cytoplasm in an ivagination of the nucleus. Chloroplast contains biliprotein C r- phycoerythrin 545 ; reported only from marine hab itats (Hill, 1991) . characteristic lipid accumulation (L) and a portion of the inner periplast sheet (IPS) .
