Caviomonas Nie

genus / DIPLOMONADIDA / ENTEROMONADIDAE

Description

Very small cell (2-6~m) which has a single free flagellum inserted on one side of the anterior nucleus (Fig . 4c) . A short ventral ridge possibly homologous to the cytostomal ridge of Enteromonas is observed. The cell has also a thick dorsal fiber or peristyle which extends to the posterior end. No ultrastructural study to ascertain the diplomonad characters of this genus (Kulda & Nohynkova 1978) . C. mobilis of the caecum of the guinea-pig (Nie 1950) is the only described species. @ Brugerolle , 1975). Fig . 4b . Trimitus ranae from amphibians (after Peres-Reyes, 1964). Fig. 4c. Caviomonas mobilis from guinea-pigs (after Nie , 1950). Bar=1 0 ~m.
