Description
Darbyshire , Page & Goodfellow, 1976 (Fig. 4) Monotypic vahlkampfiid genus , with cyst, amoeba, and flagellate phenotypes. Flagellates measure 1 5 - A 20 IJm , usually with 2 flagella but up to 6 reported ; an anterior curved lip is present but ingestion not observed in original study. Flagellates may divide. Paratetramitus is most similar to Heteramoeba , being distinguished principally by chromatin distribution in the nucleus. Cyst walls without excystment pores (Darbyshire et al. , 1976) .
